Case Overview: Ms. Yu commissioned Seapoe Relo to ship furniture and household items from her Shanghai home to Fukuoka, Japan.
Ms. Yu in Shanghai needed to ship 15 cubic meters of furniture and household items to Fukuoka, Japan. She opted for Seapoe's internal consolidated LCL service — that is, consolidating her shipment with other Seapoe customers heading to the same destination, which is safer than standard LCL consolidation.
On the agreed date, Seapoe staff came to Ms. Yu's home, packed all her furniture and luggage, and first transported the items to Seapoe's Shanghai warehouse. Once consolidation was complete, everything was loaded into containers together and shipped to port. Japan is a popular shipping destination, so there's no need to worry about slow consolidation — and Seapoe's warehouse offers 30 days of free storage.
With Seapoe's assistance, Ms. Yu's furniture and household items cleared customs duty-free and arrived in Fukuoka Prefecture. Shipping transit time to Japan is 7–10 days, so it's best to plan ahead.
Japan's duty-free customs clearance requirements are as follows:
1. Chinese passport + a long-term Japanese visa valid for more than one year (work visa/residence card)
2. Japanese passport + a long-term Chinese visa valid for more than one year
3. Shipping used personal belongings, with customs clearance completed within 6 months of arrival in Japan
In addition to your passport and visa, you'll need to collect a Baggage Declaration Form (commonly known as the "yellow card") after claiming your luggage at the Chinese airport, fill in the item details and personal information, and have it stamped at the customs service desk upon arrival at the Japanese airport. The original yellow card must be presented during customs clearance to apply for duty-free clearance.
